Jan 27, 2008 · Well, I've followed the instructions for disassembling the rifle. I raised the gas cylinder lock to just above the barrel, as stated. After that, it was stated to "then remove the gas cylinder". Well, it will not budge. Looking under the forward area of the rear sight, there seems to be about 1/4 inch of the gas cylinder under the lock.

Mar 6, 2013 · Anyway, I think I may have a problem with the gas piston and gas tube in one of the guns. I fitted the Tapco hanguard onto the gas tube OK with a bit of filing on the handguard (typical I guess), but when I got to putting it all together I noticed that the piston doesn't move freely in the gas tube once the piston head gets down into the tube.

Oct 24, 2005 · The gas valve was severely eroded. The gas piston and gas cylinder was pretty close dimensionally to my other SKS so I swapped the gas valve and that seemed to fix the problem. It would still fail to function once in a while but so did the good SKS. I ordered a gas valve from Heddonpal.

Jan 21, 2011 · I noticed this today, after putting about 100 rounds through my new Yugo SKS. Through the course of shooting a magazine, the latch goes from closed to open. I don't notice any problem while shooting, no FTFs, no other noticeable issues, I just look and the lever has moved. Before shooting a magazine: By the end of the magazine:

Oct 9, 2013 · I know some things need not be said, but I have seen people do it. It doesn't take long, or very much carbon or whatever buildup in the Gas Port to affect cycling...that's why I always clean out the Gas Port after I use a solvent in the barrel. The Piston Cylinder is usually the last thing I put back on. Then I oil the inside of the barrel.

Jul 11, 2006 · I recently purchased a Yugo SKS and shortly after, I realized that the Gas Cylinder needs to be replaced. However, I have looked everywhere, and the ones I find differ slightly from the one in my rifle. At the end of mine, opposite the side of the rivet and such, I notice that it is somewhat "flared" to meet up when I place it back in.

Mar 2, 2014 · Sounds like just some random surface rust. Use a little 0000 steel wool ad oil the area. Post a pic if you can.
