Pearl J. Stephens, a native of Wellston, Georgia, was born February 22, 1887, to the late Warren and Emma Jackson. Mrs. Stephens taught for more than 25 years, beginning in the early 1900s. Her first teaching job at Sandy Run Baptist Church was 12 miles from her home and required her to be away from her husband and children for two weeks at a time.

Mrs. Pearl Stephens died on January 19, 1980 at the age of 92. Her children and grandchildren cared for her in the home where she was born and had remodeled herself at the age of 80.
