The Sitka Volunteer Fire Department has a Dive Team that responds to any water related emergency in the City and Borough of Sitka. The team currently consists of a Captain, a Lieutenant, two Dive Medics, and 14 Divers who are cross trained as divers and tenders.

The four divisions, 9 paid staff, and approximately 85 dedicated volunteers deliver fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, rescue, SAR, fire prevention, and fire investigative services to the 4,710 square miles which make up the City and Borough of Sitka

Open to the Pacific Ocean, Sitka Sound features a raw coastline, abundant with wildlife — including fish, invertebrates, whales, sea lions, otters, and seabirds. Students study with diving professionals to develop diving techniques, safety skills, and research expertise.

2019年1月22日 · It may look like they’re walking on water, but Last Sunday (1/20/19), as rain collected in pools atop a layer of ice, volunteers from the Sitka Fire Department’s dive team were spotted practicing surface ice rescues on partially frozen Swan Lake.

Lifeguard Systems is a Public Safety Diving course taught by Butch Hendrick and Tommy Mastroeni. Butch and Tommy have come to Sitka for a 4 day course to work with the Sitka Dive Team. This is the third time Lifeguard Systems has been in Sitka.

The University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus Dive Team is clearing trash from the harbor floor under floats 5, 6 and 7 as part of their instruction. 2024年1月10日 · A Dive Rescue team from the Sitka Fire Department, along with a state trooper, arrived early Wednesday afternoon and deployed an unmanned underwater drone. The bodies of two deceased victims were found in the cabin of the vessel. Recovery operations will begin once on-scene conditions improve.

2012年5月10日 · Though bad weather continued to prevent recovery of the bodies Thursday, assistant chief Dave Johnson said the Sitka Fire Department’s dive team is standing by alongside the Coast Guard and Alaska Wildlife Troopers to help where needed. The boat has continued to drift upside down, tracked by a homing device the Coast Guard attached to the hull.
