2021年9月5日 · It doesn't matter if the "carving experts" suggest buying a Buck, Barlow, or Helvie, your choice of a knife will not make you a carver or even assure your enjoyment of carving. Do as Brian T suggests (above), decide what type of carving you want to do first. Edit: I see you have answered his suggestion. Buy a #1 chip carving knife.

2018年1月8日 · If you are just starting wood carving I strongly suggest a simple set of carving tools. Sets are available in 6 to 12 tools, and often come with a storage box or cloth roll. Select a medium-sized tool profile set of 1/2″ wide or less that includes at least a straight chisel, skew chisel, large round gouge, small round gouge, and a v-gouge.

2015年8月11日 · So far, I have been carving with both a Buck 420HC stainless knife, and a Case CV carbon knife, both sharpened at 30 inclusive with a 40 inclusive microbevel (flat bevels, done freehand). These are the angles I use for everyday tasks, so when I started messing around with whittling, I tended to just pull out my pocketknife and go after it.

2016年11月23日 · They seem to slice through the wood easier. I recently bought a Mora 120, and beside the fact that it's a bi-metal blade, it's comes very sharp. The blade is way to thick and inflexible for my tastes, and I've ended up using it as a shop knife - cutting twine, paper and anything else I need a fairly sharp knife for other than carving.

I found out my wood carving gouges are not in good shape, and the carving knife was also needing some sharpening to work better. But I was wondering about this question.
