The Starry Night is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh, painted in June 1889. It depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an imaginary village.

The world-famous hit by American singer-songwriter Don McLean (b. 1945) is officially called ‘Vincent’, but is more often referred to by the opening line 'Starry, Starry Night'. McLean says he was reading a biography of Vincent van Gogh when he stumbled upon the idea of composing a song about him.

Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night (1889), described in the song "Vincent" is a song by Don McLean, written as a tribute to Vincent van Gogh. It is often erroneously titled after its opening refrain, "Starry, Starry Night", a reference to Van Gogh's 1889 painting The Starry Night.
