I recently wrote an item randomizer for OoT. The item randomizer works by shuffling entries in the get item table. any items which are held over Link's head with a "dun dun dun dunnn" sound, that are NOT played in a cutscene, are randomized. This includes: Chest Items; Shop Items; Heart Pieces; Heart Containers; Item Upgrades; and excludes ...

The very nature of a randomizer is to give the player a new experience, but the fun comes in the discovery of the secrets and the on-the-fly routing and logic breakdown required to beat each seed. There HAVE been rando tournaments in the past using spoiler logs to give runners a chance to "route" the seed out.
