2019年4月18日 · The first two seat Spitfire to offer flights was ML407 – better known as ‘the Grace Spitfire’. Restored to flying condition over 5 years by Nick Grace, it was all too tragic when he was killed in an automobile accident.

I’ve recently been working on the Spitfire’s two-seat variants. Some of the resulting profiles will have to wait a bit before they can be published, but here are already two profiles of the most famous twin-seat Spitfire : ML407, also know as the “Grace Spitfire”.

2020年6月23日 · Their two seater Spitfires had a double greenhouse-style canopy. The makers of the Spitfire, Supermarine built a demostrator in 1946 with a bubble canopy. Then in 1948, 10 Spitfire T Mk IXs, were exported to India. In 1951, a further six TR9 trainers were converted from the standard Mk IX to train pilots for the Irish Air Corps (IAC) Seafire fleet.

2011年10月12日 · Spitfire T.VIII MT818, registered G-AIDN is a Supermarine design conversion, rather than a post-war two-seat foreign air force one. It is photographed in the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar last year. MJ627 was built as a single seat Mk.IX and has combat history in WW2. Postwar it was converted to a two-seater for the Irish Air Corps.

The British Supermarine Spitfire was one of the most popular fighter aircraft of the Second World War. The basic airframe proved to be extremely adaptable, capable of taking far more powerful engines and far greater loads than its original role as a short-range interceptor had allowed for.

The basic Spitfire design did impose some limitations on the use of the aircraft as a carrier-based fighter; poor visibility over the nose, for example, meant that pilots had to be trained to land with their heads out of the cockpit and looking along the port cowling of their Seafire. [149]
