When the pancreas becomes inflamed, the condition is called pancreatitis. Pancreatitis occasionally occurs in the cat. When it does, it is often accompanied by inflammation of the liver and intestine. This multi-organ inflammatory process is sometimes referred to as "triaditis".

Cats can suffer from two forms of pancreatitis: acute and chronic. Clinical signs can be similar for either form, but tend to come on more rapidly and are more severe in cats with acute pancreatitis. The most common clinical signs are very vague, including lethargy and a reduced appetite.
