2018年3月8日 · MS is making Word "safer" to "protect" us from ourselves by blocking access to older file formats. In Word 2016 was able to open a Works 9 document I just created. So it is possible. Take a look in File menu > Options command > Trust Center option > Trust Center Settings ... button > File block settings option. Look in the open column.

I shall help you with the issue you have related to accessing of .wps files on Windows 8. .WPS file are Microsoft Works files, where in Works does not come with Windows 8. However if you have Office suite installed on the computer you may open Word and try to access it within the Word application.
