2010年12月29日 · The AMK/mylar ones could be used in place of a garbage bag for shelter making but they are about as fragile as a garbage bag. I guess it boils down to whether you desire the ultra compact/low weight aspect of a pocket sized reflective service or a heavier/bulkier version that serves as a tarp and potentially as a type of poncho if needed.

Because the blanket is solid and not air permeable, it will also serve as a shield against air currents, such as wind, moving over your body and robbing heat.

2004年12月25日 · I used blankets to make a "tent" over my back porch table. One on the floor anchored by the table and two chairs. The ends of the blanket on the floor are tied up to the underside of the table and the ends of the chairs. A second blanket is placed over the table and falls over the blanket on the floor.

2022年11月2日 · Mylar works better for convection heat loss. It is good at radiating heat back from a fire. I did an experiment with a mylar bivy many years ago and was underwhelmed with its claimed performance. In this picture you can see where the mylar space blanket reflected enough heat down to melt the snow.

2018年12月29日 · If someone gets wet and cold we do a Palmer Furnance. Much more real world than a mylar blanket. We stick the bag over the wet person, poke a hole for his head, light the sterno and stick the sterno in the bag. Warm up a tad and get into dry clothes. IMHO a mylar blanket is a gimmick, but remember that is just my opinion.

With the exception of a non-reflective tube tent that I used in my late days in the boy scouts, I have no experience using anything reflective camping with the exception of one of heavier duty survival blanket/tarp which I used as a ground sheet.

2011年7月4日 · Not sure how it would hold up in HEAVY wind, but Mylar is 100% waterproof and I've used it as a rain cover in the past to cover gear. I figured this was a good test run considering I keep a AMK blanket in ALL of my kits incase I need a shelter, modified poncho, pack cover, etc.
