Ligustrum lucidum, the broad-leaf privet, [2] Chinese privet, [3] glossy privet, [4] tree privet [5] or wax-leaf privet, is a species of flowering plant in the olive family Oleaceae, native to the southern half of China and naturalized in many places. [6]

Glossy privet blooms in late spring to early summer and has small white creamy flowers. The flower fragrant is very pungent and may induce asthma in some people. The fruits are inedible drupes attractive to birds. But it is not as cold-hardy as Japanese privet ( Ligustrum japonicum ).

Ligustrum lucidum, commonly called Chinese privet, glossy privet or waxleaf privet, is an evergreen shrub or small tree that is native to southern China and Korea. It is often grown as a shrub to 12-15' tall, but if trained as a tree will grow much larger to 20-30' tall.

This fast-growing evergreen tree, 25 to 40 feet in height (can grow larger) with a 25 to 35 foot spread, has a dense canopy of bending branches composed of large, four to six-inch-long, glossy green leaves which have narrow, translucent margins (Fig. 1).

Broad-leaf Privet (Ligustrum lucidum), a native of eastern Asia, is a small tree usually growing 4 to 12 m tall. It has relatively large glossy leaves and produces masses of bluish-black fruit during winter.

A small evergreen tree with broadly oval, glossy leaves to 15cm in length, and small, creamy-white flowers in panicles to 15cm in length in summer and early autumn. Fruit a small black berry, seldom formed. All ratings refer to the UK growing conditions unless otherwise stated. Minimum temperature ranges (in degrees C) are shown in brackets.

Native of China; introduced in 1794. Of the truly evergreen privets, this is the handsomest and best. A well-grown plant with the large lustrous leaves and a crowd of erect panicles is one of the most effective of autumn garden pictures.
