The Dalton Highway, also called the Haul Road, is one of the northern-most roads in the world. It was originally constructed by Alyeska Pipeline Service Company to support the development of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and to service the oil fields on Alaska’s North Slope.

Alaska DOT&PF operates seven year-round maintenance camps along the Dalton Highway corridor. Each camp is open seven days per week from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and has an average of two to three operators working at a time.

Initially constructed as a haul road for the development of Prudhoe Bay oilfields, the roadway does not meet current design standards. Reconstruction of the Dalton Highway between Mile Post (MP) 109 to MP 144 will address critical segments of the highway.

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and contractor Quality Asphalt Paving (QAP) are paving the last fifty miles of the Dalton Highway in a two-year project that is being constructed in 2020 and 2021.
