16 d shear - The why of question asked. - JLC-Online Forums
2005年9月29日 · But, assuming an allowable stress of 36,000 psi (way less than the NDS uses) a 16d nail (0.135" dia for box nails) will take about 500 lbs before failing without considering any factor of safety. Common nails (0.162" dia) about 740 lbs. This is quite bit more than published values for any lumber species. I would go with the published values.
Common nails Vs sinkers - JLC-Online Forums
2001年1月6日 · Re: Common nails Vs sinkers Comparing nails to nails can be like comparing apples to oranges. A 10d common has the same diameter (0.148)as a cement coated 16d sinker and has the same shear values. A 10d common has a length of 3 inches and a 16d sinker has a length of 3 1/4 inches and are "usually" interchangeable.

2x6 studs - number of nails TWO or THREE??? - JLC Online
2004年10月19日 · This discussion came up recently with another experienced framer and I told him that I would "ask" the JLC forum users. Our local building code requires 2 16d nails when end nailing studs to the top and bottom plate. It does NOT specify 2x4 or 2x6. What is your opinion and why regarding end nailing 2x6 studs? TWO or THREE 16d nails. THANKS!
code nailing schedules - JLC-Online Forums
2000年12月20日 · When you are nailing members together as called for in "the code" remember these are for common nails, not gun nails. This is critical in cases of shear loading. A 16d common nail has a diameter of .162", while a 16d gun nail diameter is only .131", the equivalent of an 8d common. Dave

2004年11月8日 · 2x6 3 nails 2x8 3 nails 2x10 4 nails 2x12 5 nails. Our code requires 4 16d to nail a 2x12 rim to a floor joist. I also nail the rim down to the plate 12" OC. with 8d . I have reciently seen a nailing scheduial for timber strand at 8" OC. The floor sheathing is nailed to the floor joist and rim joist so there is no need for more than 4 nails .
