Ultra was originally obtained as a result of an interspecific hybrid breeding between Cornsnake and Grey Ratsnake. Allelic to and codominant with Amelanistic which means if a cornsnake is het Amel and het Ultra it creates the third phenotype (visual morph) Ultramel.

The corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus), sometimes called red rat snake[4] is a species of North American rat snake in the family Colubridae. The species subdues its small prey by constriction. [5][6] It is found throughout the southeastern and central United States.

Genetically speaking, Ultras are the powerhouse genetic version of this mutation in so much as when you breed one to any Amel corn snake, 100% of the progeny will be Ultramels. Breeding Ultramels to Amels results in approximately 50% Ultramels and approximately 50% Amels.

Combining the codominantly inherited, hybrid-derived color mutation, Ultra (co-dom with Amel mutations), with the corn snake pattern mutation, Tessera, yields a heretofore never possible genetic potential.

2021年9月11日 · In order for a recessive mutation to be visually apparent, the snake will need two copies of the recessive genes. They get one copy from each parent. Ultra is a hybrid gene. Most corn snake genes are recessive, so in order to get a visually amel snake, there would be two copies of the amel gene sitting at the amel locus.

2022年3月8日 · After some dialogue on one of the popular corn snake chat forms of that time, it was generally thought that they were a new gene some breeders were working with in Florida that they called ULTRA HYPO.
