Tsongkhapa (Tibetan: ཙོང་ཁ་པ་, [tsoŋˈkʰapa], meaning: "the man from Tsongkha" or "the Man from Onion Valley", [1] c. 1357–1419) was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. [2]

Je Tsongkhapa, whose ordained name was Losang Dragpa, was a great 14th century Tibetan Buddhist Master who promoted and developed the Kadampa Buddhism that Atisha had introduced three centuries earlier. His appearance in Tibet had been predicted by Buddha himself.

The Refuge Tree is a form of inner refuge that Tibetans take during each stage of their meditation. This magnificent image describes in its entirety the religious, philosophical, cultural and historical synthesis created by Tsongkhapa and embodied by the Gelug School.

The Dharma Name “Lobsang Drakpa” Dondrub Rinchen, Tsongkhapa’s spiritual mentor, followed the teachings of Lobsang Drakpa, an earlier master renowned for his accomplishments in Tibet’s Ngari region.

2016年6月14日 · A large sandalwood tree sprung up with more than 100,000 leaves from the exact spot where a drop of blood from Lama Tsongkhapa’s umbilical cord had fallen. The tree’s leaves bore the outline of the Buddha Simhanada, hence why the tree is known as the Tree of Kumbum or the Tree of 1000 Buddha Images.

A sandalwood tree grew from the spot where his umbilical cord fell to the ground. Each leaf had a natural picture of the Buddha Sinhanada ( Sangs-rgyas Seng-ge sgra ), and was thus called Kumbum ( sKu-’bum ), a hundred thousand body images.

Tsongkhapa Lobzang Drakpa was one of the most influential Tibetan Buddhist scholars of the last millennium. Born in Amdo, he travelled to U-Tsang in his youth, never to return to his homeland.

2019年11月22日 · This sandalwood tree is situated in the compounds of the sacred Kumbum Monastery. The ground where the tree stands is said to be the birthplace of Tsongkhapa — the founder of Gelug (Yellow Hat sect) of Tibetan Buddhism. Legends say that the “Tree of Great Merit” grew where drops of blood fell from Tsongkhapa’s umbilical cord.
