Spirit is a brave and noble Kiger mustang, born free on the open plains of the American West in the late 1800s. As leader of the Cimarron herd, Spirit is a proud, strong stallion who is determined to maintain the freedom of his herd at any cost. As a colt he was born in the spring, in a field of lush grass and wild flowers, on the open plains.

Spirit grows into a strong and brave mustang; becoming the leader of the Cimarron herd after his father. After an exhilarating race with the wild eagle, Spirit sees a Mountain Lion stalking two young colts.
