Codes emerge from your research question and/or the literature review. Codes emerge through engagement with your actual data sources and/or data set. Your codes should be defined, just as variables in a quantitative study should be defined.

2024年1月30日 · A codebook in qualitative research is a document that lists all the codes used in your analysis, featuring clear definitions and illustrative examples of each. The codebook organizes the research process and helps tease out deeper insights from your data. It also helps research teams code more consistently as a group.

Read through your codes — what themes come up again and again? Is there a pattern emerging? Are some of the codes talking about a common topic? Organize your codes into categories. For example, say you have coded for “happiness,” “sadness,” and “anger.” You can include them in to one overarching category, like “feelings.”
