One betrayed Jesus, the other would go on to be one of the most passionate apostles. Yet a study of the Gospels reveals an interesting pattern. Judas had a position of trust. Peter was the one who kept losing his temper.

2020年6月8日 · Judas betrayed Jesus. And that same night, Peter denied Christ. These two men who had been disciples with Jesus during His earthly ministry committed treason against Him in His darkest hour. And there are further similarities in these two examples in that Jesus predicted both Peter’s and Judas’ diabolical acts.

While Judas selfishly killed himself in a vain attempt to avoid his problems, Peter gave his life and died in service to Christ. Peter’s story reminds us that actions speak louder than words. Repentance is evidenced by turning, by a changed life.

2016年11月29日 · Despite the fact that Jesus predicted it all, neither Judas nor Peter understood what was happening when Jesus was put to death. But somehow, though he couldn’t see how, Peter believed that Jesus could overcome. He believed that Jesus would have mercy on him, and forgive his failure. Judas, clearly, did not believe he could be forgiven.

2016年3月23日 · After he betrayed Jesus, Peter may have wished to die, just like Judas. For a moment it may have seemed the only way out of his guilt. The difference, however, was that Peter chose hope while Judas chose despair. Judas refused that forgiveness which he also could have received. His fate was not sealed by a kiss, but by his pride.

Judas and Peter both had sorrow over what they had done. But there was a big difference in the nature of their sorrow: Judas had a sorrow that led only to regret (Matthew 27:3) and eventual despair.

In some ways, Judas and Peter were not that different: They both sinned. One could argue thatjudas's betrayal was worse than Peter's denial. But Jesus' words in Matthew 10:33 indicate that Peter's sin was deadly serious too: "Whoever disowns me before others, I will also deny before my Father in heaven."
