On August 25, 2020, Oculus as a company was absorbed into Facebook Reality Labs. On October 28, 2021, Facebook Inc., the company that owns Oculus, changed its name to Meta. That same day, Oculus was announced to be also changing its name to Meta in 2022, getting rid of the nearly decade-old name.

Despite the Oculus name being phased out, the Oculus icon continued to appear on social media accounts for Meta Quest, promotional material for the Meta Quest line, the Oculus Studios logo prior to 2023, and on Meta Quest controllers, although the icon would slowly get phased out over the next two years.
