Two models available: – ‘Williams’ periodontal probe: Scale at 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 mm.

The periodontal examination included a gingival index, evaluation of probing depth with William's graduated probe. The examination showed generalized inflammation, supra- and sub-gingival calculus, pathologic migration with 31 and 41, bluish red gingiva; probing depth was 5–6 mm throughout and generalized bleeding on probing [Figure 1].

Trans-gingival probing with a graduated probe, use of vernier calipers, ultrasonography and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), have all been tried, but no one technique has been shown to be consistent and better than the others.
