Coral reef fish are fish which live amongst or in close relation to coral reefs. Coral reefs form complex ecosystems with tremendous biodiversity. Among the myriad inhabitants, the fish stand out as colourful and interesting to watch. Hundreds of species can exist in a small area of a healthy reef, many of them hidden or well camouflaged.

The Fish Reef Project is converting empty seafloor into thriving new biogenic marine ecosystems which will be home, breeding and feeding grounds for large numbers of marine mammals, sea birds, turtles, fish, lobster, abalone, scallops, marine algae, coral and much more.

Fish Reef Project designs and deploys Fish Reef Units to enhance fish habitats by providing additional structure that can increase the production of fish and other aquatic organisms. Fish and other aquatic organisms are attracted to the new structures and begin to populate and breed in and around them.

The mission of the Fish Reef Project is to Help Ocean Life Thrive™. We will accomplish this goal by creating a global network of designed reefs. The reefs will stimulate all manner of marine life and help the seafloor recover thousands of acres of silted-in, dead or dying reefs in tropical and temperate marine ecosystems.

Founded in 2012, by Chris Goldblatt, the Fish Reef Project has successfully installed over 500,000 biogenic reefs in over 70 countries around the world such as Jamaica, Ghana, and Papua New Guinea. This reef-restoration pilot project took place in Santa Barbara in June 2012.
