Callisto is a fully reusable 13-metre-high launch vehicle scheduled to make its first test flight from the Guiana Space Centre in 2025 - early 2026, climbing to an altitude of about 20 kilometres and then returning to Earth.

CALLISTO (Cooperative Action Leading to Launcher Innovation in Stage Toss-back Operations) is a reusable VTVL demonstrator [1] propelled by a small 40 kN Japanese LOX - LH2 rocket engine. It is being developed jointly by the French (CNES), German (DLR) and Japanese (JAXA) national space agencies.

CALLISTO (Cooperative Action Leading to Launcher - Innovation in Stage Toss back Operations) is a reusable demonstrator for a VTVL vertical take-off and landing rocket stage. The introduction of reusability of launcher systems could reduce launch costs and improve the usability of the launcher system.

CALLISTO will develop and demonstrate the technologies needed for a reusable rocket stage. The demonstrator stands 13 metres high and is equipped with control surfaces and fold-out landing gear. It is powered by a single rocket stage that uses a mixture of liquid oxygen (LOX) and liquid hydrogen (LH 2) as propellant.
