Parish of San José (Spanish: Catedral de San José), located in the city of Antigua Guatemala, is part of the Archdiocese of Santiago de Guatemala and is located in a section of the old Primate Cathedral of Antigua Guatemala, which was destroyed by the 1773 Guatemala earthquakes.

The church and associated ruins behind it are one of the best sites to see in Antigua. They're located right on the main square. Spend a few minutes inside the open and used part of the cathedral complex and most of your time in the ruins behind it (small fee required).

It was considered the most beautiful and luxurious cathedral in Central America. It preserves images of great historical and religious value such as the Señor Sepultado de San José and Nuestra Señora del Socorro.

Completed in 1680, the Cathedral was adorned with paintings and sculptures and magnificent works from the best colonial artists, including Quirio Cataño, Alonso de Paz, and others. For almost a century, the Cathedral of Santiago resisted destruction by seismic activity, until the earthquake of 1773.

Antigua's cathedral was begun in 1545, wrecked by the quake of 1773, and only partially rebuilt over the next century. The present sliver of a church – the parish of San José – occupies only the entrance hall of the original edifice.
