The first signs of Saikia's elevation was seen recently when he represented the BCCI at the ICC. He attended the recent ICC board meeting in Dubai on December 5, when Shah took charge.

Saikia, from the Assam Cricket Association, had served as the interim Joint Secretary and takes over full-time after the position was left vacant with Jay Shah moving to the ICC.
