Hyacinth macaws aren’t just the largest species of macaw. They’re also the longest parrot, averaging about 3 feet , 3 inches long (1 meter), with a wingspan of up to 5 feet.

By 1990, that number had declined to a single male, who found companionship with a female of another species of parrot, the blue-winged macaw (Primolius maracana).
