Google Maps and Wave creator Lars Rasmussen has since joined Facebook. Most well-known for the popular Apache web server , the Apache Foundation is home to nearly 100 open source projects.

A new Apache Incubator proposal would see an open-source version of the technology – hosted not by Google but by individual "Wave in a Box" (WIAB) projects – called Apache Wave live on.

Except now it’s going to be called Apache Wave. Google gifted Wave to the Apache Software Foundation’s Incubator program. Apache is a non profit program to create and support open source software.
