The government of Pakistan has blocked access to Wikipedia from within the country over so-called “sacrilegious content,” according to the Wikimedia Foundation.
ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has blocked access to Wikipedia for not removing what it denounced as blasphemous content, the host of the world’s largest free online encyclopedia said Saturday.
As anger grew, Pakistan's Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Monday that Sharif's five-member committee had looked into the matter and ordered Wikipedia services be restored immediately.
Pakistan has “degraded” Wikipedia for 48 hours for not removing “sacrilegious contents” and warned of fully blocking the service in the event of non-compliance.
