The egg belonged to a German biologist who collected it but is being sold by his children following his death. It is thought to be one of only 25 intact elephant bird eggs in the world.
There are only about 40 intact elephant bird eggs in public institutions in the world, and the Buffalo Museum of Science recently found out it has had one of them for decades.
