Manchester United fans have been asked to wear black to symbolise how the club is “slowly dying” at a protest against the Glazer family’s ownership this weekend.

In this context, the colours are used symbolically. In another context, red can symbolise danger, or love. Green might relate to the environment, or money. Symbolism goes beyond just colours though.
