The Emergency Alert System will test its communications systems Tuesday morning to prepare for tornado season.

Monroe County Emergency Management is conducting a test of the outdoor siren warning system at about 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday. This is part of a statewide tornado drill. Regular tests occur the first Friday of every month.

Virginia schools and workplaces will participate in the statewide tornado drill on Tuesday morning. The tornado drill is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, coinciding with the second day of Severe Weather Awareness Week sponsored by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.
