The trend for having a 'digital' perm has come out of Japan where it is the hottest hair trend. Spiral perm: Perm rods are rolled vertically around the head with the curl pattern forming a coil.

The spiral perm is best for shoulder-length hair or longer. Dudley says this type of perm creates various-sized tight curls at different lengths by wrapping the hair vertically around rods.
