Cost and scalability also remain practical challenges that must be addressed to ensure broad accessibility in medical practice. Despite these considerations, the potential of integrated bacterial ...
Nanocellulose is a biopolymer, which means it's a naturally produced long chain of sugars. It has remarkable properties — bacterial nanocellulose is strong, chemically stable and biocompatible ...
CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) has recently licensed the technology for producing bacterial nanocellulose for wound care and cosmetics applications to Rapidcure Healthcare Pvt.
The biomaterial was developed in the company's London lab by growing the nanocellulose – a lightweight material produced by bacteria – on a framework of thread to create a new type of fabric.
“This is the first jacket ever made by a global brand out of bacterial nanocellulose,” added Gómez-Ortigoza, “So it is a pretty important milestone for the biomaterials industry.
