Social Security's payment schedule is normal in April, but recipients who get Supplemental Security Income benefits will get two checks in May.

As the federal government's Social Security program undergoes major restructuring, many of the the nearly 69 million Americans who receive benefits are especially eager to see their monthly checks.

April marks the first month that boosted benefits will be paid out to those who were formally impacted by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). These were both repealed by an act of Congress in January this year.
