President Donald Trump made no statement about the federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, other than saying there were too many like it. Lesser occasions routinely garner official proclamations.

WABC reports Nassau County government offices were open on Thursday, June 19, and will remain open Friday. Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S., is not an official paid holiday for county employees, though it is for federal, state, city and town workers in the Long Island county.

June 19 marks Juneteenth, a holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. It became a federal holiday in 2021 when then-President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.
